At first had just a flashing cursor, but converted from NTFS to FAT32 (worked on my Laptop with similar problem).

Now I get NTLDR missing.

Still works on old mobo.

I've tried repairing AND reinstalling XP (Pro), but still no joy.

A bit baffled now!!

Don't want to format due to all the apps installed...

Thanks for the link - no use though. I've even tried installing to a new directory, so a full install - still nothing.

So you've got a parallel installation that also won't boot? (its not surprising original didn't boot if you just changed mobos). Wondered a bit about 'but converted from NTFS to FAT32' - you need a third party app (like Partition Manager) to do that - and its hardly a good idea when its not working anyway.

If you did a parallel install - the actual installation must have worked properly - so at what point did the problem re-occur. I get the feeling you've left some detail out of your account - if you have, please share it with us to help us help you.

It sounds like your MBR might be a bit messed up. I'd try fdisk /mbr - although it's not without risks - should work though.
