For the past 5 years we have use a Compaq DLT 40/80 for our daily backups, then all of the sudden it just died (Came in one day and there it was "belly-up" may it rest in peace![[sad]](/data/assets/smilies/sad.gif "[sad] [sad]")
) So we removed the old DLT from the Windows 2003 backup server and went out and purchased a new Quantum Dat 72 tape drive ![[smile]](/data/assets/smilies/smile.gif "[smile] [smile]")
. Which we promptly installed on the Windows 2003 backup server. Windows 2003 loaded up the new Quantum device with ease but NTbackup refuses to let go of the old DLT ![[sadeyes]](/data/assets/smilies/sadeyes.gif "[sadeyes] [sadeyes]")
and acknowledge there is a new tape device to use. The system has been rebooted several times - but it seems that NTBackup refuses to let go.
So how can it get NTBackup to drop the old DLT and acknowldge the new DAT
