Ntbackup not backing up information Store

Hello All,

I used exchange 2007 as mailbox server.

As a temporary measure, I,m using MS ntbackup to backup the information store to a external tape drive.

The backup were succesful until this morning.

I discover this morning that the backup process failed this morning giviing below error message:

warning: unable to open "G:\mail_Store\catalogData-af44-nsngs-bjjm-2twt2u7-jasba6736vs\000100001.ci" - skipped

Reason: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

What do I do o resolve this.

Back it up again. You might have had an antivirus program or something else running.

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

And just to add to Davetoo's comment, if that's the case, you need to really look at what your AV solution is scanning, since you typically have to exclude a bunch of stuff for Exchange.

What exactly are you backing up with ntbackup?

I want to use ntbackup to backup MS exchange 2007 Information information store (Database). When ntbackup could not locate the store, we then implemented Symantec backup exec which also failed to see the store.

We just implemented Symantec BackupExec on my Network yesterday. We tried to see if this backupexec will work but still same problem.

The problem is when you initiate ntbackup and get to where to select the item to backup, we discover that Database (information store) is missing meanwhile the store is there and up and running but Ntbackup and Symantec Backup exec could not find it in its location.

Please advice.

Backup Exec requires the Exchange agent be installed.

and BE needs to be at least v11d. Anything in the event log to explain the ntbackup issue? I've never tried ntbackup on Ex2007.
