In NT4 server(sp6) when I have a floppy in drive A, and access it through Explorer/My Computer, I get "A is not accessible. Parameter Incorrect". I have a dual boot 98/NT4 machine and the floppy works just fine in 98. I am logged on as the admin in NT when this occurs. I serve files to Macintosh and Windows computers and have recently made changes to the registry to work out some MacFile issues... and shortly after this floppy problem arose.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you hacked the registry a bit far.

Can you restore the registry from backup?

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I didn't backup the reg before I made the erroneous moves. (big mistake) I have a backup of the current state, but my old backups are too old to restore :( I'm still looking for the key(s) that will give me my floppy back.

At this point I'm trying to figure out what the default keys are for "Floppy" and "Sfloppy", hoping that's where my problem is.

Try installing Sysinternal's Regmon and then turning the logging feature on before you try and access the floppy drive. See what calls to the registry show up in the log. On the other hand, the floppy initialization may fail at bootup, rather than merely on access. Did you have any errors in your event log, and does the device list show the floppy as running?

You _could_: make an ERD with a full registry backup, then restore your old registry backup on to the server long enough to tool through the registry, exporting large chunks of it, so that you would have anough floppy-related keys to re-import. When finished gleaning, you could restore your most recent version of the registry.

mmm... the device list shows the floppy running... and the event log is clean ... The Regmon idea is solid and that's what I'll try next. The more cumbersome stuff might come later ;)

Thank you VERY much for the feedback.
