We have an NT4 server with Win98/ME clients and one W2K workstation. Our server intermittently crashes with a blue-screen error
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL ** Address 80011FF1 has base at 8010000 - HAL.DLL

I've replaced memory / hard drives / tried hard drive in backup (identical) server but the same error occurs.

Server software has been cautiously re-installed from scratch but the same thing happened apparently only when the w2k machine attempted to logon to the network. With this machine not logged on, everything seems stable.

Event Viewer implies that the w2k machine thinks it's a master browser - could this be a cause? Any known issues with w2k / nt4 server?

Any thoughts would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks.

check your hardware
Did you recently add new hardware ? If so, remove it
Also make sure there are no IRQ conflicts
