NT4, Netgear or Lotus?

Hi

I'm running NT4 with SP6a connected to a NetGear 10/100 Autosensing switch via a Compaq Integrated NetFlex 3 10/100 NIC. Our client machines are running Windows98SE and connect to the LAN via NetGear FA310TX NIC.

The problem only seems to occur when running a Lotus Approach database. The first person that logs on seems to grab all of the bandwidth leaving the other client machines struggling.

Anybody got any ideas on what is the "cause" of this problem?

Can you identify the source of the problem ?

IOW, is it the server that's struggling (% cpu time) and not being able to fulfill the connection requests from other clients within a certain time frame or is it the bandwidth throught the switch ?

Have you done performance checking of the server ?

As it's a switch I'm not convinced network bandwidth is what's dragging the other clients down. A client->server communication through a switch should never impact the performance for other people. Have you checked things like you're not running a half duplex client NIC to a full duplex switch port ?

What happens to all the other server-side applications when a user opens the database ? Server hangs ? Same speed ?
