NT 4 with Win98 workstations. students logon and have access to everyones folder/files. Just recently folders have been deleted by persons unknown. Have now created individual user accounts and folders for their work. How can I make it so an individual user can only see and change work in their folder. Administrator would need to be able to access all folders and files

Well acouple things

First for existing users, go to the main Users shared directory and remvoe the everyone group.

Share Permissions

On the Share name give users change access and administrator Full control

NTFS Permissions
On the actual directory give the Users group Read and list permissions. Give Administrator the user,Full control unless you want all administrators to have Full control in which case you would give the group administrators full control.

On the individuals users directory give the specific user
the NTFS permission Change and Administrator full control. Remove the Users group from the individual directory.

Remember to remove the everyone group

Example:
*Users Shared Permission Change for users and Full
| for administraor) [NTFS Permission Full for
| Administrator and Read and List for Users]
|
|----- User1 (NTFS Permission Full Control for
| Administrator, Change for User1)
|
|----- User2 (NTFS Permission Full Control for
| Administrator, Change for User2)

If you have shares for the Users individual folders, then give the following

Share permissions: Change for the specific user, Full control for administrator.

Something to keep in mind
NTFS file and folder permissions accumulate so the user receives the least restrictive permission

When file and folder permissions combined with share permissions the most restrictive permission is granted.

Hope this helps,
