I've got 2 big 'ol NT4 Server based domains in two locations - lets all them USA and England
Previously they were seperate domains (well, a workgroup and a domain).
They are now linked via VPN, and I have a new BDC for the remote network, to handle admin on site instead of over the WAN link.
The PDC is in England, and the BDC is in USA.
USA clients CAN log on to the PDC in England over the WAN

but...

When I'm installing the BDC in USA, it will not see the domain from england (via the WAN) that it needs to join.

Any ideas?

I have set up the default gateways and IP configs correctly (as far as I can tell)

Does the bdc connect ok over a LAN connection?...

As long as you can ping across the WAN you should be O.K

Something to note though, you would need to be running WINS and have you BDC configured to use the WINS server for name resolution or use LMHOSTS file using the #DOM option (youll have to look this up).

The prospective BDC will broadcast for a PDC and since broadcasts arent routed you need another method of locating one, hence WINS or LMHOSTS.

Good Luck, hope this helps

Thanks guys - Problem resoloved (I hope). Somehow the wrong IP address had managed to sneak into the lmhosts file on the remote BDC. I'm not going to blame the guy who wrote that file at their end...honestly...I'm not.... ;)

Thanks again.
