I am trying to install Nt4.0 BDC to our network but the server will not see the domain. What can i do so the BDC will install to our domain.
Thank You in advance.

If the network card is set up properly, and the server is cabled into the network you shouldn't be having a problem. If you are using TCP/IP check your address, subnet mask, and if the PDC is on the other side of a router you'll need a default gateway address. You also may want to look and make sure you are configured properly for WINS.

To install a BDC it HAS to have connectivity to the PDC. - Bill

In addition to what Bill said, you need the administrator's password too! ;-) or someone's who is from admin group. Also, you must have a computer account in Server Manager for the new BDC.

Thank You all for your response, I finally got the BDC to install to our network, I first install the server as a PDC and once the server join the domain, I then go in to server manager the demote to a BDC and that seem to work. But why the server or the network will not let me install as a BDC?
Thanks You again.

Well, well well...

Trying to install a BDC and you install a PDC instead. Tbui, you are on the wrong footing. I wonder how you demoted a newly installed, a fresh, PDC to a BDC, in absence of any existing BDC.

The new PDC you installed is born in a new domain, and it will connect to your existing PDC through trust relationship. Any BDC you install to the new domain will not talk to the old PDC directly.

As we told you earlier, the problem can be the network connection. The new BDC your are trying to install cannot connect to the PDC during installation. That's your problem. And you are the best person who can find the solution. Check the network cables, driver of NIC, admin password etc.

Any MS domain can have one and only one PDC. You can have as many BDC as you want. There's a lot I can say... but just do the whole thing again if you wish to have a BDC in your existing domain.

I have had this problem in the past. I solved it by adding an entry to the BDC hosts file. Go to the winnt directory,
then system32\drivers\etc edit hosts. add your PDC there. This should solve your problem if you have admin rights.
