Can someone please explain the NT1 loopback test and how it is done? Is this the best way to do a BERT test on a UILC? What is the best way to do BERT on a SILC?

I have never done a BERT on a BRI. On a DTI/PRI this is a common test for the CIRCUIT, not the actual T1 card on either side. Same would apply for a BRI I assume.

BERT is Bit Error Rate Test. It sends data down the line to a loopback, then looks to see if the received data matches the sent data. If there is a framing error or other problem, the data will have a mismatch.

BERT testers are also capable of running multiple patterns, such as al 1's to stress PRI, all 0's, and a mode called QSSI (pronounced quasi) that replicates live traffic patterns.

Thanks Fletch. Do you know how the NT1 is placed in loopback mode? I have read that this is done remotely on the U interface but have not found an overlay or other method that will allow me to do this.

it's been forever since i had a bert, but i do remember a simple loop back button, fromthe co i would run the test by sending 600 cycles to the csu/dsu for 2 sec.. same thing knocks it down. in the meridian i keep a spare pri/dch and if i am getting hits i loop the two back to back and send traffic out and back in watching the lcnt (ld 60) table. that for me does almost then same thing and tells me if the trouble is local. because of the size of the company i have spare cards for almost everything on hand..(nice)
