i want to buy a copy of nt workstation, but sure what is compatible with my computer...i see someone is selling windows nt 4.0 workstation...is this compatible with conroe core 2 cpus,,.socket 939, and socket 478 cpus.... if not,,,what do i need for the rigs i have...thanks..

why do you want an obsolete o/s on your modern machine?

Wouldn't know (and doubt if many would) if your machine (and you haven't given enough details - eg, motherboard) will work with NT. Would be a case of try it and see - and may be a problem getting drivers even if it installs.

If its to run a specific app (or if you just want to try it out), you might want to consider installing XP or Vista on the machine and then using Virtual PC 2007 (its free from MS) to set up a virtual NT machine running inside XP or Vista. The Virtual PC drivers usually work ok, so NT should be fully functional this way.

i am studing for my a+ exam and it talks some about windows nt in my studying...thought it would be fun just to test it out... can get it cheap now.....realize that its obsolete, just sort of wanted to see how it performed..thanks.

Don't see why it shouldn't install, but you might have trouble finding suitable drivers for audio, video, modem, NIC etc...
