I'm using an image to re-image some notebooks that was created by someone else. The problem I'm having is that the image was created with the the notebook already in the domain. I tried to run GhostWalker to clean it out but it seems like it didn't do what I wanted. Now when I change the member of to to workgroup and restart and try to add it to our domain, it gives me the error, cannot find domain controller in the domain. I know the image I'm using is bad and I want to create one straight from scratch but I'm having a hard time getting all the software to install it from. "I work for the State of California." Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I need more information regarding how it was ghosted. And what you did to the ghosted image when you take out of the domain and join it in. I have had 2000 professional machines ghosted and had similar errors. please respond.

The image was created from Norton Ghost 5.1 and stored onto the network. I used a bootable floppy to connect to the network. I found the image and used Ghost 5.1 to re-image. After it was re-imaged, I went to network neighborhood and took it off the domain and put it in the workgroup and restarted the machine. Then I tried to put it back into the domain but it gives me the error domain controller cannot be found on the domain. It also gives me the error DHCP cannot obtain an ip address or something like that in the event viewer. I have 3 different images for 3 different notebooks. 2 of the 3 works ok but this one I cannot get to join the domain. I suspect the image is bad but I have no other way to create a new image due to lack of software. Now, after ghosting, I ran Ghostwalker. Now, it gives me 1) DHCP error "failed to obtain a lease for the card with network address "xxx..." The semaphore timeout period has expired. 2) Unable to creae the symbolic link for COM2.

This might sound dumb. Did you change the name of the computer before joining the domain?. All our ghosted laptops are taken out of the domain, name is changed and then have it join the domain. If you take that same computer and have it rejoin the domain with the same name as the other three then you will have a SID problem. Try changing to a different computer name and then join it to the domain. Let me know.

My problem is I can't join the domain. The image that I used is already on our domain. However, it's not really on the domain. It was just there from the image. Now I'm having trouble with the domain controller not being found to join the domain. I don't know if that helps.

mussome916,

This actually sounds like a connection problem rather than a domain problem. Can you ping the ip address of the domain controller or any other computer on your network? I would definitely make sure you change the computer name and make sure it is being assigned an ip address if you are using DHCP.

Sorry, just read the part about your DHCP error. You may want to try removing and reinstalling the drivers for your network adapter. Like I said sounds like a connection problem rather than a domain problem.

Also, make sure wins is setup properly on workstation.
