Hey everyone.

I am currently running 3 NT servers (pdc, bdc, and a database server) I am upgrading all of my servers to new and beefyer servers. I am going to run 2000 on the new servers. Could anyone tell me the best way to go about migrating the information over to a realitively seemless transaction. I am not sure what files I need of the NT to allow me to transfer my users profiles, passwords, etc. I don't think I can copy over permissions to folders, but I can do that in a step process. I was going to impliment the Primary Domain Controller first. Any helpful hints or steps would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Bill

I have heard from someone who had to go through the same upgrade that the best way to do it is to have an additional machine that you can use as your new windows 2000 server and get it setup the way you want it and then transfer all of your files over. I'm not sure about all the details because i haven't tackled it myself yet, but from what the consultant I was talking to said was that it is a monster to upgrade from NT server to Windows 2000 server and that it is best to do a fresh Windows 2000 server install. I know this is vague but I hope this helps you out some.

Knowledge Base article Q296480 gives a vanilla explanation along with links to more detailed information.
