We having One Domain Controller partitioned as FAT (2 GB) now we running out of space in C:\ as well this computer acts as Fileserver , Tape drive attached to it (causing backup problems since C:\ goes 0KB). My question is if Convert FAT to NTFS and use Partition Magic to expand C:\ space (i bel've NTFS on SYS drive can be 4GB) is this something possible... or
* What are the alternatives for this secenario.. Need advise

* Note We don't have good BDC it is same crap..(previous employee left everything in a hole)

Thankyou in advance.

Converting from FAT16 to NTFS ought to buy you alittel breathing room since you will drastically reduce cluster size and therefore slack space. Partition Magic will do what you want, but remember the three B's: Backup, Backup, Backup...

Other ways to free up space:

1. Check the C:\temp and c:\winnt\temp directories, under normal circumstances, everything in there can be purged.
2. look for files in the c:\winnt directory with the .dmp extension. Delete them. They are memory dump files from when the server blue screens (crashes).
3. Delete unnecessary profiles on the machine, depending how many people have log on locally access, you may have ancient info there.
4. Add another drive and move the page file to it.

Recommendations before converting to NTFS:

1. Run a chkdsk /f against the c: drive.
2. Download, install and run diskeeper lite, to defrag the drive.
3. Then finally, execute the convert c: /fs:ntfs command and reboot the server as prompted.

Hope this info helps :)
Hope that gives you some breathing room.
