We have Small Business Server 4.5 with 25 user licenses (which seems to be the max for sbs)

We hope to upgrade soon to win 2000

But in the meantime are there any limitations for more than 25 users logging in at the one time and using the resources (exchange 5.5 mailboxes, printers, files, etc.) outside of the legal license issues.

In other words will SBS 4.5/Exchange 5.5 allow more users than you are licensed for to login without causing user access problems or file and printer access (outside of the warning messages in event viewer).

No, I think you'll just get warnings. Joseph L. Poandl

hello ,

In server licence policy, you go and increase the licences . Then it won't show any problem. Other wise it may show many problems some time conectivity may be slow and disappear also. even if you maped with server some times you can see maped drives may not be listed and may show error in connectivity. In this occation tell everyone to shutdown. and tell everyone to log one by one.

thanks ,

With SBS 4.5, you can have up to 50 users.

To upgrade from 25 to 50 users, you'd need to buy two SBS 4.5 add on packs (these include a EULA and diskette which you'll need to run once to increase the available licenses).

SBS 4.5 add-on pack with 5 CALS
Microsoft p/n 807-00036
ERP $299 U.S.

SBS 4.5 add-on pack with 20 CALS
Microsoft p/n 807-00037
ERP $999 U.S.

Since SBS 4.5 was discontinued earlier this year when SBS 2000 was released, you're going to have to do some searching to find these SKUs.

And if you want to learn more about SBS 4.5, I wrote the only book on SBS 4.5 that shows how you can profit from the platform as a VAR (see below).

All the best,
