Can anyone help me on this restore problem?
I have a system that is backed up each night by NT's backup utility. I bought a new drive to replace the old C:After loading NT 4 on the machines new drive I did a restore from the backup tape I made, i set it to restore everything: File permissions, registry and so on... When I went to reboot the machine a message came up saying that the ntoskernel.exe was corrupt or something and I needed to reload that file or reinstall NT.
I have never had the misfortune of needing to retore a machine before, does anyone know what I am doing wrong?
Thanks.

It might be that it just cannot find the file. Boot into the machine with a boot disk and try to edit c:\boot.ini and ensure that it is pointing to the correct place. You need to look at the following line:-

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)

If you are using an ide disk and the software is loaded on the first partition then the line should read as above.

Hmm.. interesting.
I am running a scsi hotswap system. I am removing 2 4 gig drives and replacing them with one 18gig, I wonder if it is pointing to the wrong place, not sure how that could happen, but it makes sense. It booted fine until I restored everything. Thanks. I will take a look.
