Hi,

Currently i have a server with 2x9Gb's hard drives. These two are mirrored using NT.
I now want to upgrade the server to an Array Controller based mirror. I've bought an Array Controller (Compaq Smart 221) and 3x18Gb hard drives.

Anyone have any ideas or clues on how to make this the most easy way?

Regards

Lars

Hey.
I would have thought you would find a quiet time. Backup the system before you begin and note down essential info, domain name, domain controller status, computer name, IP address, etc. Everything that you can think of, possibly do a system printout from the NT diags.
Remove the old disks and label. Insert the new. Set up the fault tolerance in the RAID controllers configuration utility. You said three disks, is this 2 for the mirror and 1 hotspare (failover disk), or three for RAID5?
Once configured, install NT with same identity as previous setup, install backup software (if not NT's own) and restore from tape.
If you run MAC volumes, I think I'm right in saying, you'll need to re-create the volumes names manually.
This way the original disks will remain untouched, if all else fails revert!
Any other ideas?

No, i currently have 3x18Gb which i will create a raid5 set.

I want to install the system on the 2x9gb which will be a mirror... The OS (Windows NT 4) is installed on the 2x9gb. I want to upgrade the os to Win2k after enabling the array controller.

You lost me!
1. The system is built on 2x9 disks, mirrored with NT?
2. You've bought 3x18 disks and a RAID controller?
3. You want to change the mirror type to hardware?
4. You want to mirror the 2x9?
5. So where do the 3x18 fit in?
6. Are they for an additional channel for extra space?
