NT Diagnostics showing 5 users logged on?

I am in the midst of trying to troubleshoot redirector errors in the event log of an NT4.0 SP6a wkstation that does Arcserve backups.

In the NT Diagnostics, on the network tab, I see 5 users logged on - all with the same name to the same domain and login server. What is this? I do have several servers in this domain that use the same administrative login, but I didn't think that would show up on an NT wkstation, and not show up all my other NT users logged on.

How do I clear this out - or is this even something to be concerned about? I'm having other problems with arcserve (such as my mapped drives not showing up etc.) and I'm trying to rule things out.

TIA

Hi,
Try nbtstat -n . You should see the local computer and the connected server, several times ( with different suffix codes ), this is normal. It is actually connected only once.
As to the mapping, try the "net use" command.

Is the user that's logged on 5 times the backup user (user you have ARCserve logging on to remote machines as)? If so, that's normal. Why are you trying to back up mapped drives? In my experience ARCserve just shows the local drives and shares. If you want to back up a mapped drive, why not back it up on the machine where it actually lives?

Good luck. [sig][/sig]

I will double check to see how Arcserve is logging in to see if those users are the same as the backup.

Arcserve backs up data just about anywhere - it is an enterprise product. I have several servers. Mapping allows me to back up these machines without have to put an expensive tape drive and a separate arcserve installation on each machine. [sig][/sig]

You shouldn't need to have mapped drives to backup these other servers with the Enterprise edition of ARCserve (you do have the Enterprise or Advanced edition, right?). I back up 27 NT servers in 3 domains from one server running ARCserve 6.5 hooked up to one tape library. When you set up or modify your backup job and are in the source tab, you should be able to expand "Network" and then just keep drilling down until you get to the server you're looking for. This is also better than drive mapping because you will be able to back up the registries on these machines. Also, if you install the NT agent on the servers you're backing up (which comes free with ARCserve), the backups will probably be faster than using drive mapping. [sig][/sig]
