Hello,

I installed windows 2000 server in an NT 4 server. For some reason, I forgot that there were 4 disks in RAID 5 at the software level. Now, I can't see the data on those disks. In other words I see 4 disk (healthy) and no RAID 5.
Is there any way to enable RAID 5 and recover the data in windows 2000 or Can I go back to NT 4 and retrieve the dat? :-(

Thanks

From what I understand of RAID 5 in Win2K server, you will loose any info when you upgrade to RAID. Right now you are using hardware RAID correct? Well when you installed Win2K the RAID array would not be recognized at first. Inorder to reclaim that data you will need to upgrade your disks to dynamic disks in disk managment then create your partitions for the RAID. It looks like in Win2K the data will be lost. I am not sure you can just go back to NT4 and grab the data because you will have to recreate the RAID array again I believe for your new NT4 install to see it. Am I mistaken? James Collins

Thank you,

What I did is, I reinstalled windows nt 4 and recovered systems settings with ERD. I backed up data and reinstalled windows 2000.

So you got the data backed up? Good. Glad to here that. I was unsure of if you could get back to the RAID 5 after upgrading to 2K. James Collins
