NT 4 Laptop not releasing IP

I have a user who takes her Toshiba Tecra 8100 laptop home and connects to her home DSL account. When she comes in the next morning she has to release and renew her IP to grab on of ours. Shouldn't this happen automatically?

Depends how long the lease is. I.E If when she signs onto the DSL and gets an IP address with a 2 day lease the next day the laptop will still have the ip as the lease has not expired so she will need to release and renew.

Here are the Command Lines.

Ipconfig /release (releases the IP)

Ipconfig /Renew (renews the IP)

But as you point out it should do the release automaticaly try getting her to shut the laptop down instead of suspending it to disk. as it will only look to renew its ip address durring a cold boot.
