NT 4 domain and W2K domain in same subnet

The company I work for is planning to upgrade to a W2K AD domain. My suggestion to management:

To prevent bringing down the entire network and/or a very long weekend performing a upgrading to the W2K domain, we should bring up a W2K domain within the same subnet of the NT 4 domain.

I believe this is possible, but does anyone have any words of wisdom? I want to be able to migrate servers and workstations over at my leisure to ensure/test compatibility and function.

I am currently working on this same project. I brought up a 2nd Windows 2000 domain on the same subnet as my NT 4 domain. Everything worked great, the only problem I had was establishing a trust between the two of them. If you have problems look for MS article 180094 to fix that problem.
