We are running NT 4 6a IIS 4 at a UK ISP MS recommended security hotfixes were added to the ISP's base build. We have a model server to exactly the
same ghosted configuration. The ISP have lost access to the System registry tree on three occasions requiring system reboot. The initial notification is that the COMPAQ services running on the servers generate numerous events caused by a failure to access the System tree. Regedit, when run on the servers themselves (I was aware that there was a similar remote access issue, though the lack of access from the COMPAQ services suggests a more serious issue), lists the presence of the System node but does not allow for the tree to be expanded.
Searches through MS technet and requests to the ISP's administrators have not provided any indication of why System tree access is being lost. Our model server has never shown this issue.
I am wary of relying on server reboots to resolve this issue and would welcome any input on this matter.
