Huh...maybe close the System32 window and then reboot. Maybe upon reboot, the System32 won't re-open. Joseph L. Poandl

That was tried the first time this occured 6 months ago. We have also looked to see if anything is trying to load at bootup and is requiring a file in the system32 folder that is no longer there but everything else looks okay. Keith Buchanan

Hi,

Did you look at :

1 - Default user profil - startup folder ? (yes i'm sure)

2 - HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WindowsRun and Load keys ?

Something is in your start up in the registry that doesnt exist any more. Do as the previous posters suggested.

Go to

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\Run BECAREFUL!!!! But delete the entry thats tryn to start up that you've removed.

Did all of the above and box keeps opening up.. i deleted the line run = "" and load = "" and still getting the same thing at boot up... anymore suggestions. Keith Buchanan

Hi,

There is a Shareware software out there called StarEd.
It lets you know what applications are activated from the Registry whenever your machine is rebooted.
As KJo.. said there is something in the startup in the Registry that don't exist any more.
Maybe the StarEd can tell you what application it is and what registry key that causes you problems.
Just look for StarEd at download.com and you'll find it.

You may want to be sure you are not infected with a virus. This reminded me of how Norton Anti-Virus handles the KAK worm in Windows 98. It keeps you from being infected, but the entry goes into the registry anyway and everytime you boot it comes up with cannot run wininit.exe. It doesn't do any damage, but it's very annoying. I checked SARC for system32 and found some references that were interesting. Check here first:

I would also search the SARC database for system32.

Hope this helps.

This is a real bastard of a problem. Ive seen a fix on technet that says to remove the "" for the registry key runonce (see other postings) - search technet for more info.

Id rebuilt all the PCs affected by this, which got rid of it, before finding the cause.

Its definitely on technet, youll need to search hard for it (search on system32 and runonce and anything else that comes to mind).

Does it happen since you installed Internet Explorer 5.5?

This problem annoyed me a lot. I have consulted Microsoft Premium Support about this problem before. They claimed this is a bug and have no solution.
