NT 4.0 wont power down

Recently we reinstalled all the NT 4.0 systems in our office, now when we select shut down the system will not power off. All the systems used to turn them self’s off after you shut down. If anyone can think of why this would be happening please let me know we would like to get this fixed

if it is an atx power supply system then see the shutdown properties in the cmos setup

For security reasons NT won't let software 'talk' to the hardware directly. It is a call to the BIOS that performs the shutdown. According to Microsoft Technet article Q140779, NT can be rebooted but, has to be manually turned off every time.

There are Manufacturer Specific Utilities for this purpose. They are either supplied with the PC or available for download on their sites.

By default Windows NT does not enable powerdown after shutdown, but you can enable it by doing the following:
In Service Pack 5 there is a file called hal.dll.softex
you need to copy this file into c:\winnt\system32 and rename it hal.dll overwriting the existing file.
You'll then have to change the following registry setting
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOF/WINDOWS NT/CURRENTVERSION/WINLOGON/PowerDownAfterShutdown
By default this is set to 0 change it to 1
You will have to reboot the workstation but then you'll be given the extra option when shutting down to 'Shutdown and Power Off'

I have seen this before on compaq armada laptops. Never seen it on other models, but I am sure it must happen from time to time. Anyhow, if this is a compaq, the easiest way to fix it to download the power management utility from
