This is a new install of nt 4.0 server on a p3 750 and a 30 gig ibm drive. nt only sees it as a 8 gig but bios shows lba correct size. we want a 2 gig fat primary and a ntfs balance. any suggestions [sig][/sig]

just create the 2 GB root partition, and setup NT completely. Once NT is running properly, you can use the disk administrator to create any NTFS partition size you want, and format it.

You can find more info from some posts a few months ago in this forum. To summarize a couple of helpful points:

1. NT cannot have a system partition larger than 7.8 GB. Without service pack 4 or better that number is 3.9 GB.

2. Without SP4 or better NT cannot see anything larger than 8 GB for a disk at all.

In other workd, even to do what prinand said, you must get NT running with SP4 or better before creating the 28GB data partitinon.
