NT 4.0 DHCP host unreachable from 2K pro

when dhcp enabled on windows 2000 pro workstation, can't get ip address from DHCP server (NT 4.0 sp5), subsequently autoconfig ip assigned (169.254.253.184). ...any ideas would be appreciated. PS. fixed ip works fine
