NSS_ADMIN volume ghost 1

When I first brought up my NW5 server I created an NSS partition and volume on a hardware-duplexed 4GB drive. Before I put the server into production, I wanted to make that NSS volume a 9GB drive instead. I deleted the NSS volume, swapped out the drives, and brought the server back up. The system insists that the NSS_ADMIN volume still exists, and won't let me delete it. It also would not let me create a new NSS partition. I tried DSREPAIR with no effect. To get the server into production, I finally created a traditional Netware partition and volume on the new drive. Are there any cleanup tools that will help me get rid of the ghost of NSS?? Has anyone else had similar difficulties?
Fred Wagner
frwagne@ci.long-beach.ca.us

Things may have gotten confused with the drive switching?? Anyway, the nss_admin volume is a
small 2mb volume that is made the first time you run nss. This is some kind of magic volume
that novell uses to keep track of nss goodies. Yes, you are now stuck with it. You should have
been able to delete the old volume and recreate a new one tho. We have been using nss
corporate wide because of our large files and life has been good...

Thanks - looks like I'll have to play with NSS volume switching on another server. I tried to get management to let me do a practice server early on, but they insisted on a production-destined server as the first one for NW5. The rest of it is working nicely - just with I could get the monitor snake working in NW5 to give a view-at-a-distance readout on server activity.
Fred Wagner
frwagne@ci.long-beach.ca.us

Fred,
The Monitor snake is part of scrsaver.nlm. If you go to the server console and type scrsaver help, you will see all of the options. Hopefully this helps!
Allie
wendy_corbin@hotmail.com
<a href= Computer Consulting
Come check out our site for online training, great buys on computers and an awesome business opportunity!

thanks for the tip Allie - I can now see the snake from a distance, and have had no new glitches since I put it on a couple of weeks ago.
