NetWorker starts an nsrmmd process for each device that the server has (file, disk, etc...). each of these nsrmmd processes has an "-n" argument that specifies a unique ID that can be used to identify the process. Each of these unique nsrmmd processes is directly associated with a single device. If a device gets into a hung state, and you kill the "correct" nsrmmd process, NetWorker will restart it, but in the process the drive will become available for use again.

There is a way to determine which of the nsrmmd processes is associated with a specific device, but I seem to have forgotten the trick.

If anyone has ever done this and can share the process, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

If you are talking about a windows storage node you can use the free tool Process Explorer from sysinternals (I think it is microsoft now). Just examine all the nsrmmd processes and you will see what device they are allocated to.

Thanks for the sugestion... I have already downloaded the sysinternals Process Explorer which is a GUI. I also found a nice command line utility called PrcView that can be used for creating a script to automate the extraction of the nsrmmd "-n ##" information.

However, that is only part of the puzzle. The device that the nsrmmd is associated with is not indicated via the command line arguments. There is a trick to determining it though and I knew it at one time, but now I cannot seem to find the script that I used to do it and I have forgotten where to get the information that maps the nsrmmd number to a specific device.

Cheers,

izy
