I have installed a new MICS 5.0 system with a FastRAD. I am running NRU 9.0 on a Dell laptop (Win2K Pro), which has an internal modem on COM4.

Using the Norstar ICS Programming Tools, I can dial into the RAD with no problem. I have used the Browser and have done a system backup successfully. However, when I try to connect using Norstar Manager, the modem never dials. After 20-30 seconds, I get a Error -551 (Modem Timed Out). It seems almost like the software can't communicate with the modem.

Anyone else had this problem and found a solution? Thanks!

Are you using a line plugged directly into the NAM modem?

Norstar® Voicemail Manager is the program used to edit the class of services. You can access the NAM by the internal NAM modem or through the NAM Network Interface Card, NIC. You will connect to the NAM by using a PC that has
the Norstar® Voicemail Manager installed on it. In the modem connection scenario you will have to make a network dialer. In Windows 95 or 98 you go to the Dial Up Networking window and make a new connection. You must enter the following dialer information;

User name: namaccess
Password: log2nam

Once you connect to the NAM and the dialer minimizes you will run the Norstar® Voicemail Manager program. You will be presented with an Administration Password window. You must enter the following dialer information;

Server Nam or IP address: 192.168.110.10
Administrative Password: (what ever your Admin password is, such as 1020000)

The program will run and a menu titled NVM Manager and will appear at the top of your screen. You will then select the OPTIONS menu tab and then select EDIT CLASS OF SERVICE. You will enter 0 for Passwords Expiry in Days to make your mailbox passwords never to expire for a particular class of service. There are other valuable selections to make in this tab. An entry here is the only way to edit the class of services.If your NAM is connected to a network you can gain entry without the network dialer, and just simply run the Norstar® Voicemail Manager program using the actual IP of the NAM on the LAN instead of the default IP.

Also, if you are trying to use Norstar Manager -(not the same as Norstar Voicemail Manager)- you can't. Norstar Manager is only for the older systems ex. Modular 8X24 DR5.

You CAN use the Norstar Manager for the directory feature for all releases, then use FILE and 'open remote tools' to connect to CICS/MICS.

cbdudley,
I have the exact same setup in a few places...mics5.0, RAD, even the dell with win2k.... Norstar manager never works with it - I just use the remote set.
