NRU 10.0 Could Not Open Com 3???

Help all. I've been banging my brains out with version 10.0 and using XP Pro on my laptop modem (Dell Inspiron with a Broadcom V.92 56K modem). I've searched and searched, but cannot find the answer to this software conflict?? Modem works fine on com 3, but starting nru states could not open com 3. Do I have to set a specific initialization string, change something in an INI file, or ??? Don't have a clue, lol. Thanx in advance for your help,

To test your string, modify the string in NRU to a simple
,ATDT XXX-XXXX Comma dial XXX-XXXX.
Also see if the modem may have any programs running such as fax etc.
