NR041 router always points to IIS server

Hello all,

I'm really not sure if you heard about this problem before, but that's totally new for me.

The network setup is simple, DSL modem plugged in the router which has 3 computers plugged in it.

Beside my roommate's computer, I have one Windows XP PC and the other Linux. I usually run all server applications on Linux, especially the Web server. It usually has the internal IP 192.168.1.100, because I always plug it in first in my router. Plus, IIS is installed on my Windows PC, but I don't use it.

Everything was going fine until this week. For some reason, the port 80 on my router will always point to my Windows PC. The settings clearly indicated that it should be forwared to 192.168.1.100 -- my Linux PC.

I've tried resetting it and upgrading the firmware, but it didn't fix the problem. Even if my Windows PC gets a different internal IP when I reset it, my router will still forward port 80 to that PC! Even if my Windows XP PC gets the IP 192.168.1.101 or 192.168.1.102 ... Going to my external IP in my browser always shows that IIS "Under Construction" page.

I don't get it. How the router, all of the sudden, automatically detects a computer that has IIS on it and overwrites its own settings to forward to it instead of what I specified? It was working alright before, but not anymore!

Can anyone help me?

Disable uPnP on the router.

I just tried it. I resetted the router. Didn't help.

The only way the router would adapt port forwarding entries under DHCP is through uPnP, with the possible exception of port triggering.

1. In the router, Password screen, disable uPnP
2. under Advanced, Forwarding, disable any existing entries in the uPnP table. Check for multiple forwarding entries in the regular Forwarding table. You want only one entry for any port. Clear all trigger entries.
3. Make certain your client is rebooted to remove the uPnP service entry point.
