Novice question

Hi, I just installed the Apache server and it runs great hosting the webpage from my computer's IP number. I would like to know if it's possible to run multiple name based websites from one IP number or does each website require its own unique IP nubmer. And if it is possible, is that something thats configured during domain registration or within the server somplace.

Here's some info for Apache 2.x about name virtual hosts.

http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/vhosts/.

The DNS records for multiple domains need to be set to point to the 1 IP address that Apache is using.

Hi, yes, you can run a whole bunch of sites from one IP. What you need to do is learn how to use virtual hosts. You configure each virtual host (website) in the httpd.conf file.
