In the "Sniffer portable field service" program why does my host table shows a very large number of stations when connecting to the internet through a wireless router (i am on the only client station),
yet when connecting via ethernet it only shows "this station", "cisco 6B...", "broadcast" and another station that i think is my cable modem?

Is this suggesting that other stations are connected to my machine or are they just webservers connecting - how do i know?

Most likely webserver connections, or application connections.

The host table collects each network node's traffic statistics.
The host table accumulates MAC, IP Network, IP Application, IPX Network and IPX transport layer information.

Click on the detail button (The hour glass). It will show you what protocol is used per station.
