Hello,

Does anyone have a copy of Novell's Netware Access Server v1.3 or NAS (the one that uses OnLAN PC)?

I used to use this product some years ago and have tried every avenue known to man to try and source / purchase an old copy of it from Novell but they are unwilling / unable to help me as they say that they destroy all old and end of life products.

I have a requirement for this at a DOS only / Netware 3.12 customer.

We are prepared to pay for it if necessary and cannot see a copyright problem if you have the software and are no longer using it.

I have tried all other avenues as well including Symantec (as I had a feeling that this product became pcAnywhere Access Server), Compaq (it used Desqview for the multiple sessions) etc. but no luck.

This will be hard to find. I think this product matured into NIAS (Novell Internet Access Server) when 4.1 came out.

What is the goal you are trying to acomplish? maybe there is an alternate solution we can help you with.

Thanks very much for the reply.

The customer is running an accounting package written in Foxpro 2.6 (DOS).

They have three offices (two remote and one head office) connected to each other via 64k digital lines.

Each office has a Netware 3.12 server connected to a router which is routing IPX.

The accounting package runs too slowly (unuseable) on the workstations at the remote offices.

The only way to get some performance out of the system was to set up a pcanywhere host at head office for each workstation installed at the remote offices i.e. only screen and keystroke information is being sent to the remote workstations.

This is not an ideal situation as each time another workstation is installed at a remote office it is necessary to install yet another pcanywhere host at the head office and this is now becoming unmangeable.

Netware Access Server (NAS) would be ideal for this situation as it allowed for up to 15 (+1) simultaneous DOS sessions on the NAS (using OnLanPC which I know to be a version of pcanywhere) i.e. a many to one connection.

I have in the interim spoken to the guys at NetOp and Net Support Manager but both systems allow for the display of the hosts screen on multiple remote workstation (ideal for training purposes) but neither have the ability to run an application multiple times on a single host.

An important factor to note is that the client does not want to change or upgrade to any form of Windows workstations as the cost would be enormous and without the additional cost of proxy servers and firewalls etc. they are then giving their staff access to the internet and email etc. etc. and they feel that this would make them vulnerable to virus attacks etc. Also - they do not under any circumstances wish to change the accounting package.

If the above was not an issue I could quite easily have used Terminal Services.

I can't believe that I was the only person worldwide to set up and use the Netware Access Server and, by the looks of things, this software was light years ahead of its time!

Netware Internet Access Server (NIAS) gives allows for multiple workstations on the LAN/WAN to access the Internet via a single server but does not provide what the NAS did. Also Netware Connect (which replaced Netware Asynchronous Communications Server or NACS) also provided the functionality to provide multiply dial-out sessions to bulleting boards etc. etc. but not simultaneous dial-in connections to a single host that allowed for the running of multiple sessions on this single host.
