I have a novel 5.1 server with all patches and a Linux 6.2 server running NTP, I can sync to an outside source on the novel and the Linux box. My other Linux boxes can sync to my Linux box, my MS PDC can sync but my novel box will not sync to Linux. My novel box can sync to an outside source fine, so I know it works OK, but I get errors ( Unable to communicate with server IPaddress)when novel box tries to get time from the Linux box.

Thanks again.

Question.... do you have more than one primary time server setup./.. if so, Novell only likes one primary - the rest must be secondary.

Second question.... can you ping the linux server from the netware server?

1. The novell is setup as single, secondary, My linux is the Primary,

2. I can ping the linux server from anyplace.

You should really set your NetWare server up as a Primary or ideally a Reference server. Then, using the TIMESYNC.CFG configuration file, point a Time Source to your Linux box with :123 after the IP Address

eg. 192.168.101.10:123 -----------------------------------------------------
"It's true, its damn true!"

TheLad is correct. The Novell Server should be set to Primary. This refers to the Novell Primary time source not your networks primary source.

I set the Time source to a Gov location in Co. They would go on and off line during the day. That was the problem. I am using a time source in utah and it seems to work fine now.

Thanks for the Help.
