My servers have rather old OS on then (NT4 and Novell 5.1). For a small shop with part time IT dept that struggles a bit, what might be the best file server software to move to? This would be a 30 user environment max.

Netware 7.0
Take it from a guy who's in the process of converting Netware 6.5 to MS Active Directory. What a piece of crap is AD.

Hi

Netware is a great product and its going to be hard to get the performance\reliability for the money your spending now which is probably next to nothing.
If you do go to Microsoft then get the best servers money can buy and have heaps of RAM. You should have two Domain controllers separate from your File server\servers - with Netware you could run almost everything on the same server. ie NDS\DNS\Printing and file services.
Quality hardware is also important for whatever OS you use and then you should have a lot less probs over the years.

Regards

Dave.
