Is it possible to disable the windows password on a XP machine that is also running novell client? You have to log in twice(Once for novell, then a user profile for xp) Can i disable the windows one?

Don't think you can disable the workstation password because you have to log into the workstation in order to gain access to it.

If the NetWare and workstation account names and passwords are the same, you only have to log in once.

If you use Zenworks along with novell workstation manager, this will synchronize the password accounts between Novell and Windows.

golflover Actually ZENWorks can only do DLU, it does not actually sync the password (tried it once, didn't work, NTS said it wasn't supported). You can have it manage local account already there, but if the passwords are not the same to begin with, you have to sync the passwords your self.

To get a password syn in place you need Account Manager (aka NDS for NT), which is usless if you don't have a domain in place.

Provogeek, you are correct... I was only thinking of new accounts being created.

Whilst true, DLU with volitile user configured actually works effectively because when a user logs in, the local account is created with the same username/password as the NetWare username/password. When the user logs out, the local account is removed. This negates the need for password synchronisation on a workstation because the local user account is only created for the users NetWare session. If the user changes their password during the session, the local account gets updated as well but this does not matter as it gets deleted when the user logs out.

But then you have to deal with profiles that Win2K/XP shoves up your rump. Delete the user account, and you delete the profile. New profile on each login can get annoying for most users.

You can solve this by using roaming profiles. I have a personal dislike for roaming profiles, they can be such a pain, but if you get them to work right, they are nice.

There is a solution for everything, just depends on what headache you want to deal with.

You could also do the Windows portion of autologon. Novell has a TID called "The Ultimate guide to Autologon". It is not the most secure soltuion but it works.
