Novell Client Read only Compatibility-2000pro

When NT was released Novell dropped the Read Only Compatibility = ON, This has been a real problem for me since. I must give eveyone on the network WRITE in order to open DBFs. We are now running all 2000pro but still have the same problem. Any help please!
