I do not know much about Novell networks but I will try and describe the problem I'm having.

First the background: I'm running Win XP SP1 with Novell Client 4.83 SP2. We were using roaming profiles and my profile saved fine whenever I logged off. I did have to insert a registry key mentioned on Novell's site in order to have the profile saved once I upgraded to XP Sp1.

The problem now is that we have been moved off of roaming profiles to only be able to use local profiles. Now, whenever I log off, any changes I made to the desktop or user specific registry changes are not saved. When I'm logged on and look in the Documents and Settings there are several folders there. One is "Default User". This user's settings appear to get copied to whoever logs in. Then I also have my own personal login_name folder which I think is initially created from the Default user and where any changes I make to my settings or registry are saved. The problem seems to me that, when I log off, the changes I have made are not written back to the default user and also my own individual directory is deleted. The network admins have said that everything should be set so that my changes will be saved, so I know it's not supposed to be a policy that prevents the changes. I have no clue what to check or where to look to see what is happening. Can anyone help?

Thanks

Sounds like the Zen policy on the network is set to delete the local account on logoff. So when you log out, it deletes the local user account which also deletes the profile. Next time you login, it creates your local account and you get the default user settings. The setting is under dynamic local user - change it to manage existing user accounts and to not be volatile.

Rjs,

What you say sounds like it makes sense. I just don't know how to do it. I'm not the network admin, though I do have many administrative rights, some of which I don't really know about. If you could explain how I could look at or edit these settings that would be great. Or is this something the network admin should do?
