Anybody come up with a way of getting the novell client to work on Vista yet>?, Novell in there wisdom have decided to delay the release until 60-90 days after Vista launch,
i have a client with 180 NW6.5 servers and need to map drivers aswell as use consoleone if possible.

If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?

Consider this. Microsoft Vista is in Beta right now. Novell IS developing stuff for it. But historically, Microsoft ALWAYS changes stuff in the final release so as to break any of Novell's efforts. What works today won't work when Vista is released anyway, and then Novell will have to go back to the drawing board.

Also, I find it hard to believe that any company would put Beta vista boxes into production. That would be suicide.

Sorry Marv,

I didn't make myself clear, i meant that i need to use the vista box to continue my everday role of supporting thses stores.

If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?

Gotcha.

So its only for you, the admin that needs the latest and greatest. I understand.

yep, thats me, always wanting to play!!! :)

i did ask this same question on the vista forum, i got a response along the line of this

quote
"Windows Vista includes NWLink and Client Service for NetWare to transmit NetWare Core Protocol (NCP) packets to and from NetWare servers. It does not provide TCP/IP support. For that you need to use CIFS on your Netware servers. (CIFS is part of the 'Native File Access Protocol' (NFAP). Basically CIFS is an implementation of MS SMB for for Netware - it makes your Netware servr visible as an MS server.)"

Marv, your thoughts would be greatly appreciated on this comment

If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?

I would expect that response from a Windows person, which is also someone that doesn't understand NDS or NetWare.

While what they say is technically true, and can be done, it won't do what you need it to do. You won't be able to run ConsoleOne or NWADMIN. You have to use the Novell client so that you have a pure NDS connection, not one facilated by baling twine.

Also, CIFS is a cool concept but I don't think it is practical on a wide scale. I don't like to dumb down my servers just so that I can say that they look like a Windows server.
