I've just upgraded the win 98 machines to the newest client version of novell. This one computer in particular shares a printer via windows printer sharing, and what is strange is that the person who accesses this printer from another computer has their login name default in the novell login prompt at the computer with the shared printer.
Is windows passing this info to the login because of the sharing of the printer?
ex. Bob is sharing the printer, but Ted wants to print something so Ted does that. The next time Bob brings up the novell login, Ted's name is there even if Bob was the last one logged in.

It works better if you plug it in.

Hi
I believe its a problem with the version on the Novell client. I had this as well, the name used when installing the client is kept as the default instead of the last user to login.
The latest client should fix this up for you, remember to completely remove the old client first and clean up the registry.

Regards

David

Could you be so kind as to explain how I install the client? ~Apex1x

You can get the latest client from and it is currently number 2 in the Top Ten Downloads:

"It's true, its damn true!"

The problem is actually your location profile, but upgrading the client should also fix this. I don't remember what client version did this; didn't give it much thought when I ran into (didn't think of it as a bug until now actually), I just deleted the default profile and that fixed my problem.

To do this; right click on the red N on your task bar and choose Novell Client Properties; Click on the Location Profiles tab; Here you should only see Default, click on it and remove it or click on Properties then choose the Default Service Instance and click Properties again; you should now see what looks just like a login pop-up, and you should see the name of this default user that keeps comming up in this feild. Delete the user name and be sure there is no check mark in Save Profile After Successful Login. Click all the OK buttons to close the client properties page, you might need to reboot, but after that you should start getting the last user that logged in to come up on boot. Why do user go into a panic when a NetWare server goes down, but accept it as normal when a Windows server goes down?
