I have a Novell BO server 6.5 with a hardware Raid 5 setup.

My problem is that one of the disks has failed. We replaced the faulty disk but now Java is unable to run.

We have been told that Java is the only way to check the raid array on the server does anyone know if there is another way to check the raid array an the server with out using Java?

You can always access the RAID controller at bootup...

Yeah, there has to be a keystroke that will get you into the RAID controller setup utility when the system is starting up.

Some keystroke like Control M or whatever. Consult you manufacturer to get the correct keys.

As an alternative, they normally give you (or you can download) a bootable CD that you can use to load the "configuration/setup program" into RAM (usually a bootable Linux CD). Then you can check and configure the RAID array and do stuff like add disks/set disks to failed/reconfigure the array.

sorry what is BO ?

depend son model of server - ie cpqonlin for an hp - no java needed and insight mangler just needs agent loaded - dont think java needed

dell - not sure on the box but openamange should get in remotely with no jave -

terry712,

BO more than likely means Branch Office. Nice product (sorta) that novell had to pretty much make File/Print server appliances.

It's just NetWare 6.5 with a snazy front end to it. Lets users do their file/print, will even host a GroupWise PO, do Zenworks stuff and then Sync the whole thing with the central office.

Novell has discontinued it.

It was a nice product, after you get in touch with NTS, escalate the call to backline and get a manual that actually gives decent instructions on how to get the SSL working in the product.

On the Java issue, what Java process are your trying to start? and what is the failure your are getting? Doesn't make much sence that a raid failure would cause Java to go south (unless of course everything else went south with the Java, got some beers and are watching you ... laughing).

Have you broken out of the NBO interface to get to the NetWare under it and run the java app there?

BTW, if your RAID is doing it's job and rebuilding that drive you replaced, shutting the machine down just to check is a bad mistake to make. If your unable to get the tools that do the checking to work, and the system is running and doing the job it is supposed to do. Best to leave it sit for a few days to allow the rebuilt to compelte before shutting the system down for any checking.
