Hello All,

My company is planning an upgrade from NW 4.11 to NW 6. We currently have 3 servers.
-HP Netserver LH3000(GroupWise Server): CPU=PIII533 RAM=256
-HP Netserver LH3(File Server): CPU=PII450 RAM=512
-HP Netserver E 45(Border Manager): CPU=PII266 RAM=224
The Novell website lists the minimum requirements as a PII class machine with 256MB of RAM. But then they go on to give recomended setup of dual PIII 700Mhz with 512MB of RAM. That is a big differance. We have about 30 users so the load on the severs is small. The CPU usage is almost always less then 5%. What have been your experiences with with NW 6 performance. Is it one of those things where it runs with the minimum requirements but is way too slow? I think the two faster servers will be ok (with maybe some more RAM) but I am concerned with the slow one. Will it make it through the upgrade? Your thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks for giving me this chance

I would say your GroupWise and File Server would be ok...but max out the memory in both(up to 1GB if they support it). The other one will not be able to handle it I don't think...or if it will you might not like the performance. It probably wouldn't hurt to give it a try though if you are able to test it before rolling it out.

The only experience where I had a problem...I tried to install NW6 to an old Pentium 200MMX and the install reported back to me that it did not support the hardware and canceled the whole process.

You don't need a second processor. Netware probably wouldn't use it anyway. We quit buying them here.

Thanks for the input. I was thinking along the same lines. Upgrade memory for the ones I will keep and probably replace the slow one. Anyone else have any suggestions or things I need to watchout for in the upgrade?

NetWare 6 has very good multiprocessor support. We've got several dual-933 systems here and it works great.
