I have Novell 5, just installed MS AD and Exchange 2000. When login in Client32 shows AD Domain, without actually login in to it. Login to Novell is fine but then I have to manually login to Exchange. Anybody knows what I need to do make Client32 do single login, and change passwords from Ctr-Alt-Del?

Thanks

You are telling me that I will have to by a whole new product just to keep passwords in sinc and do single logon? If that's the case; goodbye Novell!

What did you expect?

Think about this for a sec. You are asking for two different directories from two competing publishers to work together. Novell just offers a solution. You don't have to go with DirXML, just with it you have more options. With the DirXML product, you create a user ID in one place and it gets replicated and updated across many database platforms.

Imagin this; HR hires someone new and enteres thier employee information into the HR database, lets say thats PeopleSoft. DirXML detects this new entry and send the data to each attached database in that databases native language. So just by HR entering in the new employee, they also have their NDS user ID, Ad user ID, Exchange user ID, voice mailbox ID and so on (continue with everything that needs to be done in a computer when a new hire comes on board, or when someone gets let go). Then the user can change thier password and that password gets replicated to the Sybase database running the invnetory control software, NDS, AD, Exchange, the time tracking database, and so one. The posiblities are almost unlimited to what databases DirXML can sync data between, and it can be any kind of similar data the different databases use.

You can also do a simple LDAP sync between the two directories.

Thanks, all I want is single logon for my users. What about MS Windows Services for NetWare 5. Any idea how good is it?

I would stay away from MS Windows Services. In my experience, it's strictly a bindery-based service -- they might know that NDS exists, but they wouldn't soil themselves by actually writing to it. (But hey, am I bitter about all my wasted time? No-o-o-o, what would give you that idea?)

BTW, you might want to check out ZENworks 6. It lets you manage AD, including synchronizing passwords. It's brand-new, so I can't give you any personal experience in using it.

Thanks. But they want to move away from Novell alltogher, so we'll have to do without it.

That's too bad.
One day, "they" will regret that decision.

bratok69 You are thinking of Gateway Services for Netware (AKA Client Services for NetWare). It is bindery aware, and with the addition of Novell's client it is also NDS aware. All this does is map a drive from your Windows server to your NetWare server, then the Windows server "shares" that drive.

In no way does it sync passwords.

Another product you can look at is Native File Access Protocol. It comes with NetWare 6, but it is an add on for NetWare 5.1 This will allow you to use CIFS to authenticate to your netware server. The authentication can come down via a Domain or NDS using a simple password (there is a security reason why Novell does not allow the NDS password to be used for CIFS authentication).

Again, it does not sync passwords.

jkcarrol Your bitterness with Novell products is getting the better of you. There is no such thing a ZENWorks 6, the current version is 4 and in no way does it sync an AD password with an NDS password. It DOES create local users on a Win2K/NT box dynamicly, but there is no sync going on there.

Two products that do the password sync are the DirXML product I pointed out before AND Account Managment .. also from Novell.

Provogeek, you misunderstand me. My bitterness is not directed at Novell; rather, it's directed at Micro$oft and its aparent inability to play nice with others. (Rather like my ex-wife: any solution was good so long as I did it her way...)

Re: ZENWorks 6 -- that's something that came out of BrainShare. If you go to you'll find an overview of ZENWorks 6. One of the features is that it can manage AD systems, letting you synchronize passwords in both systems.

Guess it helps to attend Brainshare

Hope your reading this boss man, you know who you are. My information is outdated cause you didn't send me to Brainshare. hummff!!

Thanks for the link jkcarroll, just went through it and it almost looks like Novell hired an M$ marketing dweeb.

This new ZEN suite really has nothing new. Looks like Novell is using the ZEN For Desktops package to get sales on the other ZEN packages that no one buys. The password sync jkcarroll speaks of is just DirXML prebuilt drivers, nothing more. If you remember the ZEN product line, there used to be about 5 different products (desktop, server, handheld, synergy, and one other I don't remember right now). This "NEW" ZEN version is just all of those products. So if you already have ZEN4, don't rush out to upgrade, unless you want the server managment (which is pretty kewl). Hell, if your on ZEN3.2, stick with it for now. v4 only has clientless abilities and PXE in the box (3.2 has PXE as an add on). The clientless is great if your in a pure Novell server enviroment, but it works only half way on when your mid-tier server is Winblows.

IMPO ZENworks will need to expand it's OS support to stay in the spot light. I know so many accounts that would buy it in a heart beat if it could manage a Mac. It would also help the Linux comunity if it could manage a Linux workstation. I have heard rumers that something was being worked on, but for now, it's only rumors.
