I've been asked to help a company find an alternate storage solution. Currently, they are in the process of being forced to purchase an expensive tape backup system as their data is overwhelming their current tape drive. They are now questioning if using removable hard drives as a backup medium would be a cheaper and more viable solution. Instead of rotating a 2-tape system every other day, they want to purchase a 60-100gig hard drive and rotate several of those by housing them in removable drive bay cages, and plugging them into the dockable drive bay. Now, they are using Executive Backup 7.11, and Novel Netware (unknown version). Because they are doing this kind of outside their administrator's reach (they are forcing the more expensive tape drive solution on them), upgrading Novel or Executive Backup may not be an option.
Now, first off, does anyone know if this version of Exec Backup is capable of doing this? The manual says nothing regarding making the backup destination to a hard drive. If the program itself is not capable of this, is there maybe a way to emulate a tape drive system to a hard drive? If they can't do this, then I'm afraid they may need to go the more expensive route.
P.S. I know very little regarding Novel, so I can't provide a version. Doing advanced tasks such as emulation or modifying source code is beyond me, and I will need to seek outside help myself.
