i have the following instructions in order to install tcp/ip
Loading the TCP/IP NLM
At the file server console prompt, type load INETCFG.

Next, select Protocols option.

Select TCP/IP and press ENTER to enable.

Enable IP Packet Forwarding (only if you have TWO or more Network Interface Cards).
Enable RIP and Static Routing.

Enter the Gateway/Router's IP address in the Static Routing Table as Default Route.

then
Load INETCFG and select Bindings option.

Press INSERT, select TCPIP, and select the board to support IP.

Enter IP Address, Subnet Mask and save the configuration by pressing ESC.

Finally, close down the fileserver and reboot it.

However every time i try to save the changes i got the following error.

An error ocurred in coping temporary file initsys.tmp to initys.ncf
Configuration file does not reflect changes made in this session.
<Press Enter to continue>

any workaround?
thanks

You can go delete INITSYS.NCF, NETINFO.CFG, and NETINFO.CHK (I think all are in SYS:ETC).. do this when you don't have INETCFG running.

Then load INETCFG and it should try to create all of them again.

Note that doing this will remove ALL of your NIC configuration that is configured within, including IPX stuff. So document that before you make change.

But note that you will not be able to connect to the NetWare 4.x server using IP, you must still run IPX in order to connect to the server.

NetWare 4.x does not support IP communication, usually the only reason to enable IP on a NetWare 4.x server is for something like printing purposes.

The reason i am enabling TCP/IP is in order to use and Backupexec Agent for backup purposes, since TCP/IP is a must. So just to be clear, when i delete INITSYS.NCF, NETINFO.CFG, and NETINFO.CHK i must reconfigure IPX and enable TCP/IP.

The thing is this is a work and running ipx configuration i wouldnt like to mess things around.

I don't think you will be able to use the BackupExec agent if it only supports TCP/IP because NetWare 4.x servers do not support TCP/IP connections. The only TCP/IP connections that usually work are for things like printing.

I could be wrong, but I do not think that you can get the BackupExec Agent working using TCP/IP on Netware 4.x

BackupExec Agent exists for those purposes, if i can make to enable TCP/IP i garantee you a can put the agent to work.

It's pretty tough to mess up IPX. I guess if you've never seen it, it could be intimidating. Just make sure you reenter the stuff you had before, exactly as you had it. It's all configured there in INETCFG and it's pretty intuitive.

Can i do a backup of the files so if a enter some thing wrong i just replace the files again?
