I just installed a MM 3.0 for a user MSS backend. They want to use the notify me feature to generate an email to notify them of a new voicemail. However when they turn Notify Me on and leave a voicemail they receive no notification.

The COS is setup correctly.

Anybody have any ideas on this one?

Thanks!

Just FYI but the notify only works from an outside caller not from mailbox to mailbox. If that is the way you are sending it then the smtp server or fire wall is not letting it out. Or the DNS for the email is not right.

Ken,

Does anything need to be set up on the Internet Messaging Options form?

Also I am now working as a BP so Im actually implementing these things, but at my last job I believe the notify me feature worked when any voicemail was left. I can test with the user right now and leave a message from outside the network to see if it works.

Thanks Ken!

well you may need to set up the mail gateway. you would put in the name and the IP. so it would relay the email from your firewall or email server.

As far as messages from all users if yours does it from a user inside their mailbox i sure would like to know as it has never worked like this on any system i have installed

So to make things clear the mail options dont have to be configured in order for the notify me feature to work?

With this one customer I left the mail options blank and also populated the mail options info, mail gateway and IP and still no SMTP traffic is coming to the user.

In regards to your other point. Are you talking about within the MM network or when someone is logged into their mailbox and send a message out? If I can remember correctly if someone called me extension within our DCS network I would get a notify me notification.

Thanks for your help

I am sure that you need to put the SMTP server in as the mail gateway. And then the customer will need to allow relaying from the MM.

Thanks for your help Ken. I put the information in there and its working now. I guess I need to set this up for a couple other customers just in case they want to use this feature.

However I remember on a MM 2.0 when we populated that mail options field it interfered with other networked MM's and did not pass messages across the network.

Yes it will block the mm to mm or mm to MNS until the customer allows the mm to mm traffic in the mail gsteway. they will need to add a connector if they are using exchange or a rule if they are using the firewall.
