Hi ,

I'm trying to configure SQL Server 2000 to notify me when a certain job fails. Running on Windows 2000 Server.

When I click the TEST button on the Notification form, it fails. Nothing in the SQL log relates to the problem. I'm wondering if having the Messenger Service disabled would cause this. Thr IT manager disabled it as a security measure.

Does the Notification get delivered via Windows Messenger or by some other way?

Thanks, john

If you are using the NET SEND notification option then themessenger service must be running. Maybe you could try using EMAIL notification ?

yes you must have net messenger enabled why would you IT manger take it away ... GRRRRR IT managers,

thanks for the replies.

Messenger service was disabled to prevent those 'pop-up' messages from coming into the primary domain controller from the Internet. I have disabled it on my home PC, but I think a server should have it enabled.
