I need to recover a file but when i go back to a certain date it gives me the error "Nothing in index at this time" I know the backups where succesful and i've been told it's somehting to do with the Index file but how do i get it so i can recover the file from the date i want?

We are using Networker 4.2.5-B (UNIX/IRIX)

Thanks

Lindsey

Hello,

Have you tried isolating the date range? Are you first able to retrieve the file from a date before and after the date? Are you sure the savetime within your browsetime actual includes the date/time the file was backed up?

If the saveset that has the file included is too large you can always take the shotgun approach and use:
scanner -S SSID devicename | uasm -rv -m SSName=new-location

This should recover the saveset from the tape to a new location you specify this avoids using the file indexes and streams directly from tape. You will n=have to determine which tape holds the file by looking through the volumes.

Hope this helps - Larry

Having a problem which maybe points into that direction

using networker 6.1 on Solaris unix sparc

Backed up an NT Server, Index was fine so far.
The Server crashed and i was able to recover everything.
This was 2 weeks ago. Since then Backup still works fine,
logs show no errors, indexes are stored succesfully on tape
as far as i can see from log. But when i browse the indexes
i can only see them until the date when server crashed,
none of the recent Backups are shown. When i look on the volumes, i can see the savesets. But because of the
missing index entries i have a problem to recover
by nsruser for example.

any ideas ?

Try to locate the tape on which the saveset will most likely be and use the command "scanner" to scan the tape and build the index from that tape. But have a look at the man page. I used that command migrating tapes from one server to another. Could be very time consuming.

Another approach would be to make a directed saveset recovery and copy the file from there to the desired destination.
