1) Webmail based on the standard mail template (mail50.ntf or mail6.ntf (Domino 6))
2) iNotes is based on the iNotes template (inotes5.ntf or inotes60.ntf).
iNotes web access is a much more rich client than the standard webmail client. Both clients are standard on your Domino server. iNotes is available from Domino 5.0.8 or above.
Choose the inotes template when you register a new user or replace the design on an existing user.
Just make sure you have the HTTP task running and you'll be able to access your mail via a web browser.
Go to redbooks.ibm.com and look for the freee downloadable redbook for iNotes. It is a well written reference and will provide you with many security tips.
Things to be very aware of:
Names.nsf should not have anonymous access
On the Internet protocols tab be certain to disable the browsing of databases by HTTP clients.
download, install and configure the webmail redirector... it will make your user log in experience much nicer.
Consider setting up a reverse proxy server to stand between the firewall and your Domino server. Microsoft's ISA server works very well and is worth the effort of setting up... as no HTTP traffic from the outside will physically ever touch the Domino server. Goto isaserver.org for general set up advice and hardening information.
